I help busy families take the overwhelm and confusion out of using essential oils!
As long as you follow basic safety guidelines there is no “best” way to use essential oils. With doTERRA's pure essential oils, you can use them aromatically, topically and internally.
doTERRA essential oils are 100 percent pure! This makes them effective and safe to use aromatically, topically and internally.
When you apply them topically to your skin, they should almost always be diluted with a carrier oil! Especially if you are a new user, with kids, or with sensitive skin.
The high-quality products (household and wellness) doTERRA offers are an easy way to start swapping out products to all natural options!
You’ll be amazed at how the quality of doTERRA oils support your body in healing and solve every day problems that pop up.
There are a ton of dilution charts out there, and the further along in my research, the more benefit I see in proper dilution. YES, quality oils can be safe. YES, they are concentrated compounds that should be used with care and understanding.
Here are things I consider when diluting oils.
Age. (Always dilute more for kids!)
Oils being used. (Strong oils, like Peppermint I dilute more, even on adults!)
How the blend will be used. (Daily. On Occasion, Targeted treatment.)
I always consider the factors and tend to be more conservative with my drop amounts. I want to prevent irritation or potential skin reactions. When applying oils topically for emotional support we have some favorite oils and some favorite spots to apply them!

Not everyone will respond the same way to the same oils. Plus, each oil has it’s own unique properties, so experiment and find what works best for your family!
Essential oils come in two different bottles types.
There are dropper top bottles that contain pure un-diluted essential oils.
There are also roller top bottles. Touch rollers and Kid's Line rollers are pre-diluted and ready to apply topically for everyone in the family 5+. ( For younger littles, it's important to dilute further.)
You can use the bottles of pure essential oils in your diffuser, to create your own roller bottles, or in various DIY recipes.
If there is one thing I dislike about the essential oil industry, it’s the abundance of unsafe info I see shared all willy-nilly.
Citrus Oils. One of the most popular oils with good reason. They are uplifting, cleansing and smell great! When using them there is one super important factor to take into account. PHOTOSENSITIVITY.
Simply put, some oils react to UV light. They can cause photosensitivity, which can cause your skin to sunburn more easily.
Scientifically put, photosensitivity is heightened skin sensitivity or an unusual reaction when your skin is exposed to UV radiation from sunlight or a tanning bed as a result of medications, a medical condition or genetic disorder, or even by using certain types of skin care products. (ie: applying citrus oils.) Photosensitivity is defined clinically as an exaggerated response to UV light, eliciting symptoms such as burning, itching, and redness.
Always be sure to read labels before applying essential oils on the skin to ensure that you are not at risk for skin irritation due to photosensitivity.
How do we avoid a reaction?
Check labels for photosensitivity guidelines.
Apply to areas that will be covered when outdoors.
Use aromatically instead.
Enjoy the sun and your oils with these simple reminders!
By putting essential oils directly into the air we breathe, we can influence the feeling of our environment, and, more powerfully, our own emotions.
Find a place for your diffuser, somewhere you spend time, choose a couple oils to start with. (I love to have one in the kitchen with 3 drops of Lemon and 1 drop of peppermint.)
While smell is a great tool, there are other reasons that diffusing essential oils can be beneficial to you:
It can purify the air in your home. Juniper Berry, Lemon, Lime, Tea Tree, and specific blends like Purify and doTERRA On Guard® are useful for this purpose.
Some oils can help maintain feelings of clear breathing and open airways. For example, doTERRA Breathe®, Douglas Fir, Lavender, and Eucalyptus all have this ability, among other oils.
To minimize the effects of seasonal threats. Specifically Arborvitae and doTERRA Breathe can help.
Only a small amount of oil is needed, start with just a few drops and adjust to your preference!
